Growing up in a very large, formal southern Baptist Church, we were expected to sit quietly while the preacher delivered his sermon. No one dared raise their hands or speak out during his service or else the entire congregation would turn and look at you. The preacher, during one of his sermons, told the congregation that you should never clap in church because “God isn’t putting on a show”. I loved my church but at times I felt that I was just doing my duty by going to church each Sunday. As an adult, I had given up on “church”. Not God… but on the idea of having to go to church to be close to my Father. Then, not so long ago, I walked into Motion Church expecting the same that I had always been accustomed to; sit, listen, learn, repeat. Immediately, I felt an energy in this church I’d never felt before. As I sat quietly, listening and watching, I knew I had found what I was searching for for so long. Everyone was so engaged and so eager to hear what Pastor AB had to say. It was contagious! I learned that day that the preacher all those years ago was right. God isn’t putting on a show. But, when you feel his heavenly spirit inside you and you feel the passion in your preacher’s words, you can and should celebrate! It’s a celebration! I now find myself thinking, “I can’t wait until Sunday morning so I can go to church!” I thank God every day for leading me and my family to Motion Church. I am so excited to see what the future holds for OUR church!
