"Don't Talk Yourself Out Of It"
Pastor Albert Almore
New Series starts today called, SOLOMON—Understanding The Times.
I’m excited about this one. I’m telling y’all right now, Solomon was no joke! 1 Kings 10, beginning at verse 1 gives the clearest of snapshots of just how bad Solomon was!
“When the queen of Sheba heard of Solomon’s fame, which brought honor to the name of the Lord, she came to test him with hard questions.”
1 Kings 10:1
“She arrived in Jerusalem with a large group of attendants and a great caravan of camels loaded with spices, large quantities of gold, and precious jewels. When she met with Solomon, she talked with him about everything she had on her mind. SOLOMON HAD ANSWERS FOR ALL HER QUESTIONS; nothing was too hard for the king to explain to her.”
1 Kings 10:2-3
“And when the queen of Sheba had seen ALL THE WISDOM OF SOLOMON, the house that he had built, the food on his table, the seating of his servants, the service of his waiters and their apparel, his cupbearers, and his entryway by which he went up to the house of the Lord, THERE WAS NO MORE SPIRIT IN HER.”
I Kings 10:4-5
“Then she said to the king: “It was a true report which I heard in my own land about YOUR WORDS AND YOUR WISDOM. However I did not believe the words until I came and saw with my own eyes; and indeed the half was not told me. YOUR WISDOM and prosperity exceed the fame of which I heard.”
I Kings 10:6-7
“Happy are your men and happy are these your servants, who stand continually before you and HEAR YOUR WISDOM!”
I Kings 10:8
“Blessed be the Lord your God, who delighted in you, setting you on the throne of Israel! Because the Lord has loved Israel forever, therefore He made you king, to do justice and righteousness.””
I Kings 10:9
“Then she gave the king a gift of 9,000 pounds of gold, great quantities of spices, and precious jewels. Never again were so many spices brought in as those the queen of Sheba gave to King Solomon.”
1 Kings 10:10
Jesus Himself referenced this moment in Matthew 12:42 when he said,
“The queen of Sheba will also stand up against this generation on judgment day and condemn it, for she came from a distant land to HEAR THE WISDOM OF SOLOMON. Now someone greater than Solomon is here—but you refuse to listen.”
Matthew 12:42
That wasn’t the only time that Solomon’s name was mentioned in the New Testament. John 10:22-23 says,
“It was now winter, and Jesus was in Jerusalem at the time of Hanukkah, the Festival of Dedication. He was in the Temple, walking through the section known as Solomon’s Colonnade.”
John 10:22-23
The eastern side of the Temple's Outer Court in Jerusalem, was named after Solomon, the former King of Israel.
Acts 5:12 says,
“The apostles were performing many miraculous signs and wonders among the people. And all the believers were meeting regularly at the Temple in the area known as Solomon’s Colonnade.”
Acts 5:12
Solomon was so bad and covered in royalty, that Jesus said in Luke 12:27,
““Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even SOLOMON IN ALL HIS SPLENDOR was dressed like one of these.”
Luke 12:27
Who was Solomon’s parents? Where did he come from?
“and Jesse begat David the king; and David the king begat Solomon OF HER that had been the wife of Urias;”
Matthew 1:6 KJV
Who is her? Maybe the New King James Version will tell me.
“and Jesse begot David the king. David the king begot Solomon BY HER who had been the wife of Uriah.”
Matthew 1:6 NKJV
“and Jesse the father of King David. David was the father of Solomon, WHOSE MOTHER had been Uriah’s wife,”
Matthew 1:6 NIV
“and Jesse the father of David the king. And David was the father of Solomon by THE WIFE of Uriah,”
Matthew 1:6 ESV
“Jesse was the father of King David. David was the father of Solomon (WHOSE MOTHER WAS BATHSHEBA, the widow of Uriah).”
Matthew 1:6 NLT
David…Bathsheba…
Whoa? Are your some kin to those people that the article was published about in 2 Samuel 11 where it says,
“In the spring of the year, when kings normally go out to war, David sent Joab and the Israelite army to fight the Ammonites. They destroyed the Ammonite army and laid siege to the city of Rabbah. However, DAVID STAYED BEHIND IN JERUSALEM.”
2 Samuel 11:1
“Late one afternoon, after his midday rest, David got out of bed and was walking on the roof of the palace. As he looked out over the city, he noticed a woman of unusual beauty taking a bath.”
2 Samuel 11:2
“He sent someone to find out who she was, and he was told, “She is Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam and THE WIFE OF URIAH the Hittite.””
2 Samuel 11:3
“Then David sent messengers to get her; and when she came to the palace, he slept with her. She had just completed the purification rites after having her menstrual period. Then she returned home.”
2 Samuel 11:4
“Later, when Bathsheba discovered that she was pregnant, she sent David a message, saying, “I’m pregnant.””
2 Samuel 11:5
You mean to tell me, that you’re the product of an adulterous lying murderous situation?! You came from that with the title the wisest man to walk the earth, besides Jesus? People came from all over the world to see how God was using you, blessing you, and speaking through you? Jesus Christ himself referenced you? A part of the temple was named after you? I’VE COME TO PREACH A MESSAGE THIS MORNING TITLED,
DON’T TALK YOURSELF OUT OF IT!
I know you’ve messed up! I know you’ve missed the mark! I know the situation wasn’t ideal! I know you feel unworthy! I know you feel unqualified! But I say to you today…. DON’T TALK YOURSELF OUT OF IT!
I know it’s messy! I know it’s complicated! I know it’s uncomfortable to talk about, uncomfortable to think about…
YET STILL—God’s got a PLAN.
YET STILL— God’s got a PLACE.
YET STILL— God’s got a PURPOSE .
YET STILL— God’s got a PERSON.
DON’T TALK YOURSELF OUT OF IT!
Don’t talk yourself out of HIS LOVE.
“Then David comforted Bathsheba, his wife, and slept with her. She became pregnant and gave birth to a son, and David named him Solomon. THE LORD LOVED THE CHILD”
2 Samuel 12:24
“and sent word through Nathan the prophet that they should name him Jedidiah (WHICH MEANS “BELOVED OF THE LORD”), as the Lord had commanded.”
2 Samuel 12:25
In the midst of your David & Bathsheba moments. In the midst of your David & Bathsheba setbacks…DON’T TALK YOURSELF OUT OF HIS LOVE.
““The Lord did not SET HIS HEART ON YOU AND CHOOSE YOU because you were more numerous than other nations, for you were the smallest of all nations!”
Deuteronomy 7:7
“Rather, IT WAS SIMPLY THAT THE LORD LOVES YOU…"
Deuteronomy 7:8
Listen to verse 7 again…
““The Lord did not set his heart on you and choose you BECAUSE you were more numerous than other nations, for you were the smallest of all nations!”
Deuteronomy 7:7
📝 God doesn’t love you for A CAUSE. God loves you JUST BECAUSE.
Psalm 136:23…
HE REMEMBERED US IN OUR WEAKNESS. HIS FAITHFUL LOVE endures forever. Psalm 136:23
HE REMEMBERED US IN OUR HUMILATION His faithful love endures forever. Psalm 136:23
No matter how you put it…
We love because HE FIRST LOVED US. 1 John 4:19
Don’t talk yourself out of YOUR EXISTENCE.
“For when you die and are buried with your ancestors, I will raise up one of your descendants, your own offspring, and I will make his kingdom strong.”
2 Samuel 7:12
“He is the one who will build a house—a temple—for my name. And I will secure his royal throne forever. I will be his father, and he will be my son. If he sins, I will correct and discipline him with the rod, like any father would do.”
2 Samuel 7:13-14
“But my favor will not be taken from him as I took it from Saul, whom I removed from your sight.”
2 Samuel 7:15
“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things HE PLANNED FOR US LONG AGO.”
Ephesians 2:10
This is why Jeremiah 1:5 says,
““Before I formed you in the womb I KNEW YOU [AND APPROVED OF YOU as My chosen instrument], And before you were born I consecrated you [to Myself as My own]; I have appointed you as a prophet to the nations.””
Jeremiah 1:5
You are known by God.
Approved by God.
Desired to work through by God.
Don’t talk yourself out of HIS PROMISES.
“As soon as Hiram heard the words of Solomon, he rejoiced greatly and said, “Blessed be THE LORDthis day, who has given to David A WISE SON to be over this great people.””
1 Kings 5:7
“Then Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord in front of the entire community of Israel. He lifted his hands toward heaven,”
1 Kings 8:22
“and he prayed, “O Lord, God of Israel, there is no God like you in all of heaven above or on the earth below. You keep your covenant and show unfailing love to all who walk before you in wholehearted devotion.”
1 Kings 8:23
“YOU HAVE KEPT YOUR PROMISE to your servant David, my father. YOU MADE THAT PROMISE with your own mouth, and with your own hands you have fulfilled it today.”
1 Kings 8:24
“For when you die and are buried with your ancestors, I will raise up one of your descendants, your own offspring, and I will make his kingdom strong.”
2 Samuel 7:12
📝 Don’t allow your PAST to talk you out of God’s PROMISES.
Here’s the bottom line to today’s message…
📝 God can use ANYTHING, and ANYBODY that’s SURRENDERED to Him.
“but GOD HATH CHOSEN THE FOOLISH THINGS of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;”
1 Corinthians 1:27
But GOD CHOSE WHAT THE WORLD CONSIDERS NONSENSE to put wise people to shame. God chose what the world considers weak to put what is strong to shame.
1 Corinthians 1:27
He took my case!
I met the terms. I met the qualifications. My life was wrapped in foolishness. My life was wrapped in nonsense, until God stepped in, and made sense of it.
I’m a living witness that God can use ANYTHING, and ANYBODY that’s SURRENDERED to Him.
IN WHAT AREA OF YOUR LIFE HAVE YOU BEEN TALKING YOURSELF OUT OF IT?
WHAT AREA OF YOUR LIFE DO YOU NEED TO SURRENDER TO GOD?
