"The Kindness of God"

“David asked, “Is there anyone still left of THE HOUSE OF SAUL to whom I CAN SHOW KINDNESS for Jonathan’s sake?””

‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭9‬:‭1‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“The next day the Lord let an evil spirit take control of Saul, and he began acting like a crazy man inside his house. David came to play the harp for Saul as usual, but this time Saul had a spear in his hand.”

‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭18‬:‭10‬ ‭CEV‬‬

“Saul thought, “I'll pin David to the wall.” HE THREW THE SPEAR AT DAVID TWICE, but David dodged and got away both times.”

‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭18‬:‭11‬ ‭CEV‬‬

“One night, David was in Saul's home, playing the harp for him. Saul was sitting there, holding a spear, when an evil spirit from the Lord took control of him. SAUL TRIED TO PIN DAVID TO THE WALL WITH THE SPEAR, but David dodged, and it stuck in the wall. David ran out of the house and escaped.”

‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭19‬:‭9‬-‭10‬ ‭CEV‬‬

“But now your kingdom shall not continue. The Lord has sought for Himself A MAN AFTER HIS OWN HEART, and the Lord has commanded him to be commander over His people, because you have not kept what the Lord commanded you.””

“David asked, “Is there anyone still left of the house of Saul to whom I CAN SHOW KINDNESS for Jonathan’s sake?””

‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭9‬:‭1‬ ‭NIV‬‬

📝 THE HEART OF GOD is always pursuing after KINDNESS. 

No one had to spur David on to say this. Why? Because it was in David’s heart, and David’s heart was after God’s heart. 

📝 Never underestimate how much YOU REFLECT THE IMAGE OF GOD through kindness. 

“But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, KINDNESS, goodness, faithfulness,”

‭‭Galatians‬ ‭5‬:‭22‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Out of all the attributes to describe the fruit of our God, the characteristics of our God, kindness made the cut.

“The Lord has appeared of old to me, saying: “Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore with LOVINGKINDNESS I have drawn you.”

‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭31‬:‭3‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

📝 The formula that God used to draw us to Himself is LOVE and KINDNESS. 

“Love is patient, LOVE IS KIND. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.”

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭13‬:‭4‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that GOD’S KINDNESS IS INTENDED TO LEAD YOU TO REPENTANCE?”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭2‬:‭4‬ ‭NIV‬‬

The formula that God used to draw us to Himself is LOVE and KINDNESS…

THE FORMULA HASN’T CHANGED.

📝 The formula hasn’t changed from KINDNESS to RUDENESS.

IT IS NOT RUDE, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no account of wrongs.

1 Corinthians 13:5 BSB

Rudeness doesn’t reflect the image of God. 

“THOSE WHO ARE KIND BENEFIT THEMSELVES, but the cruel bring ruin on themselves.”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭11‬:‭17‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“Therefore, AS GOD’S CHOSEN PEOPLE, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, KINDNESS, humility, gentleness and patience.”

‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3‬:‭12‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“BE KIND and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”

‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭4‬:‭32‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be QUICK TO LISTEN, SLOW TO SPEAK and SLOW TO BECOME ANGRY.”

‭‭James‬ ‭1‬:‭19‬ ‭NIV‬‬

📝 • You live a life of kindness by being QUICK TO LISTEN. 

📝 You live a life of kindness by being quick to listen TO THE HOLY SPIRIT. 

In order to do this, point number 2 is..

📝 • You live a life of kindness by being SLOW TO SPEAK. 

📝 Your LISTENING skills to the Holy Spirit must be quicker than your SPEAKING skills to others. 

📝 We often REACT then APOLOGIZE. James 1:19 fixes this.

“….GOD’S KINDNESS IS INTENDED TO LEAD YOU TO REPENTANCE?”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭2‬:‭4‬ ‭NIV‬‬

SINCE GOD’S KINDNESS IS INTENDED TO LEAD YOU TO REPENTANCE, WE HAVE TO MAKE SURE THAT RUDENESS DOESN’T PUSH PEOPLE AWAY.

📝 • You live a life of kindness by being QUICK TO REMEMBER, all of the kindness that God has shown you.

“When Mephibosheth son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, came to David, he bowed down to pay him honor. David said, “Mephibosheth!” “At your service,” he replied.”

‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭9‬:‭6‬ ‭NIV‬‬

““Don’t be afraid,” David said to him, “for I WILL SURELY SHOW YOU KINDNESS for the sake of your father Jonathan. I WILL RESTORE TO YOU all the land that belonged to your grandfather Saul, AND YOU WILL ALWAYS EAT AT MY TABLE.””

“Mephibosheth bowed down and said, “What is your servant, THAT YOU SHOULD NOTICE A DEAD DOG LIKE ME?””

‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭9‬:‭8‬ ‭NIV‬‬

He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and TO LOVE KINDNESS, and to walk humbly with your God?
